Coal Mine Gas

COAL MINE GAS

Mine gas comes in various forms, such as coal mine methane (CMM), coal bed methane (CBM) and coal seam methane (CSM). The gas yield is mainly a direct consequence of mining - the pressure discharge of the seams leads to desorption of methane into the now surrounding air. In deep mining, mine gas is a very actual hazard, since it induces firedamps. Modern ventilation systems reduce this peril to a minimum. However, brought to the surface, methane leads to serious damages in the atmosphere and speeds up global warming. Being used for energy generation instead of being just vented into the air, this environmental hazard is not only reduced by factor 21, but the mine gas also serves as a substitute for regular fossil fuel. There are still vast potentials for mine gas utilization – China alone covers more than 70% of its energy consumption with hard coal. Edina is one of the leading experts in mine gas utilization, from power plants to booster stations Edina has the answer.
